EVIMalaR First Call

Applications were submitted online via www.evimalar.org and were due by 8 March 2010, after 2 months of advertising in appropriate scientific journals and on the web. 939 students registered, showing interest in the Programme and finally 374 submitted their applications. Most candidates were from India or African countries and the average age lay in the mid twenties.

During a preselection phase the best 53 students have been selected based upon:

- grades and certificates

- letter of motivation

- existence and qualitiy of letters of recommendation

- experience in the field of infectious diseases

The Selection Committee formed of Prof. Dr. Lanzer, Prof. Vial, Dr. Blackman and Prof. Dr. Waters, has then chosen, from the preselected ones, 38 candidates to invite. Finally 34 accepted our invitation. The candidates had to choose up to 3 of the 14 projects. One project has not been selected by any student, therefore we interviewed only for the remaining 13 projects.

Interviews were held at EMBL, Heidelberg (Germany), 26th - 28th May, 2010.
