Graduate degree in Biology at University of Ulm and PhD thesis at the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe. Since 1995 scientist at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg in a cooperation unit with the Pediatric Clinic of the University of Heidelberg. 2005 group leader of a clinical cooperation unit of the DKFZ and the University Hospital Heidelberg Dep. of Urology. Since 2006 group leader of a clinical cooperation unit of University Hospital Heidelberg Dep. of Surgery and DKFZ. Habilitation in 2001 at the Medical Faculty of  Ulm and 2012 at the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg with venia legendi in Experimental Medicine.

Dr. sc. hum. Wolfgang Groß

Mathematician, resonsible for statistics, computer network and supervision

Wolfgang Groß joins our team since March 1, 2014. He is PhD in mathematics and therefore the central point of contact of our department for the statistical evaluation of the scientific data. In addition, he supports ongoing projects with individually adjusted computer programs. By the way he keeps on running the computer network of the Section Surgical Research and he is a sought contact person in case of the computer once again is not doing what it should do. 

Dr. rer. nat. Michael Schäfer

Michael Schäfer ist a member of our team since March 1, 2014. He has a PhD in Physics and therefore works on electrophysiological aspects of our scientific research. He measures the communication between cancer cells before and after treatment with new experimental therapeutic options. The intracellular communication is disturbed in highly aggressive tumor cells and the normalization after therapy points to their efficacy.

From 2006 – 2009 Senior Scientist, Department of Dermatology, University of Heidelberg. Since 2009 Junior Group Leader at the Research Team Immunotherapy, since 2016 Group Leader at the Research Team Molecular OncoSurgery, Department of General, Visceral- & Transplantation Surgery, University of Heidelberg.

Dr. med. Li Liu

Dr. Liu received her Bachelor- and Master of Medicine Degree from the North China Coal Medical College in 2003 and 2006 and has experience as a professional lecturer and doctor at the pathology in the above university and hospital. Since January 2009 she is in our working group and has already finished her dissertation. Since 2013 she has been working as a scientist. She is a very important employee because she is proficient in the entire methodology of the department and is involved in the care of the employees and the laboratory organization. As a Medical Doctor she has the knowledge of a patient-oriented research. She is currently working on her habilitation as a private tutor.

Jury Gladkich

Mr. Jury Gladkich studied in Russia Medicine with residency as a hygienic physician. He has work experience in medical statistic and worked in Omsk as a Doctor in a lab for hematology. Due to a major accident he could no longer continue his duties as a doctor and he has retrained as a technical assistant. Since 2008 he’s been working in our laboratory. His involvement in all ongoing projects in the fields of histology, staining, microscopy and modeling of patient tumors is irreplaceable. Mr. Gladkich is also involved in the laboratory organization and methodical instruction of students, trainees and interns.

 

 

 

 

Sonja Bauer

Sonja Bauer works with focus to the C. elegans worm model, at which side effects of cancer therapy can be tested. In addition, she assists in further experiments and takes over the general laboratory organization. She graduated from the State Agricultural Center LTZ Augustenberg from the end of 2002 to the beginning of 2007 and has completed her training as a biology laboratory technician. Since then, she has been working at the Surgical Clinic of Heidelberg, where she was employed at the European Pancreas Center until the beginning of 2015, and thereafter rotated for several weeks to the Zöller AG.

Ankica Stanic

Ankica is the good soul of our Section “Surgical Research” and she works for all working groups. She washes the used laboratory dishes, sterilizes them professionally, stuffs the pipettes with absorbent cotton, so the experiments can be performed sterile, she autoclaves laboratory media and puts the clean dishes back into the cupboards.    

Christina Georgikou

Christina has a Bachelor Degree in Biology and a finished successful her master in "Tranlational Medical Research", at the University of Heidelberg. She began working on her PhD in January 2016 and examines the epigenetic regulation of the intercellular communication of pancreatic carcinoma cells and their influence on tumor progression and therapy.

 

 

Xi Xiao

Xi is a surgeon from Hunan, China, and she started her medical dissertation in November 2015 in our team. She has got a bachelor degree in clinical medicine and a master degree in surgery from XiangYa School of Medicine, Central South University. Xi examines epigenetic effects of broccoli to progression and therapy of pancreatic cancer.

Libo Yin

Libo is a Surgeon from Changzhou, Jiangsu, China. He obtained a bachelor degree in Clinical Medicine from NanJing Medical University in 2006 and a master degree in Surgery from XiaMen University in 2010. At January 2016 he started with his medical doctoral thesis with the topic pancreatic cancer and overcoming it´s pronounced therapy resistance.

Liping Bai

Liping has a master's degree in Clinical Oncology and is an Associate Chief Physician at the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the ZhongShan Clinic at Xiamen University, China. In 2006, he graduated from the Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Fujian. Since October 2016, he has been working in our working group to test new therapeutic agents against pancreatic cancer in experimental studies within the context of a medical doctoral thesis.

Yangyi Wang

Yangyi comes from Wuwei, Anhui, China. He has a master’s degree in General Surgery from Anhui Medical University and another master degree in Medical Physics with orientation of radiotherapy and biomedical optics from Heidelberg University.He has comprehensive experience about different aspects of cancer including surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He has been working with us since December, 2016 to study tumor immunology of pancreatic cancer, which is a noval treatment methods of tumor.

 

 

 

Lena Bauer

Lena is a student at Heidelberg Medical School and currently working on her MD thesis. Previously, she has gained experience in basic research while completing a two -month internship in our lab. Her current research is focused on the role of extracellular vesicles in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

 

 

Zhimin Qi

Zhimin comes from Xinzhou, Province Shanxi, China. He received his Bachelor degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Shanxi Agricultural University in 2014, and obtained his Master's degree in Veterinary Pharmacology from the Jilin University in 2017. The Master's topic was "Natural compounds against oxidative stress and inflammation through regulating the signal transduction". He began working with us as a PhD student in November 2017 to study the resistance mechanism of Pancreaic Cancer and to develop new therapy options.

Yiqiao Luo

Yiqiao comes from Chendu, Sichuan, China. She has got a bachelor degree in clinical medicine from the Southwest Medical University and a master degree in oncology from West China School of Medicine, Sichuan University. In January 2018, Yiqiao started to work as a MD student in our team, to study the epigenetic regulation of pancreatic cancer progression and new treatment options.

 

 

 

Huihui Ji

Huihui comes from Weifang, Shandong, China. She has got her bachelor 2015 and master degree 2018 from the Qingdao University, majoring in clinical medicine (bachelor) and in pathology and pathophysiology (master). Qingdao is a port city with 9 million inhibitants in the eastern Chines province of Shandong, which is known for its beer, which dates back to the German colonial era. The work on her medical doctoral thesis started with us in September 2018 with the topic epigenetic regulation of pancreatic cancer progression and new treatment options.

Xuefeng An

Xuefeng An comes from Tianjin, China. She obtained her Bachelor Degree in Clinical Medicine from the Tianjin Medical University and her Master Degree in Surgery from the Tongji University, Shanghai, China. In October 2018, Xuefeng began her MD studies in our team with her research project: microRNA regulation of glucocorticoid-induced autophagy and progression of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
