Projects

  • Endoscopic research platform: The group of F. Herth at the Thoraxklinik is one of the world’s leading centers for the development of new minimal invasive endoscopic techniques. In close collaboration with industrial partners, the group has developed many novel techniques, including endobronchial ultrasound, navigated bronchoscopy, endobronchial epithelial lining fluidanalysis, intrabronchial application of therapeutic drugs, and interventional endoscopicmanagement of end stage COPD (endoscopic lung volume reduction).

  • Early diagnosis and longitudinal disease surveillance in a high risk cohort. Together with the partners within the Translational Lung Research Center (TLRC) and the Airway Research Center North (KH Großhansdorf), the team initiated several trails on phenotyping of COPD for endoscopic lung volume reduction. Together with the network of private pulmonolgist the long term effect of such techniques will be evaluated. The trials are ongoing.
