The team is looking into scientific questions concerning perioperative pathophysiology in hepatic (liver) surgery, in particular liver transplantation and liver resection. Clinical studies as well as experimental examinations of large and small animal models have been made.

During the past few years, some of the research areas our projects have worked on include:

  • Experimental studies of the effects of catecholamines on microvascular liver perfusion
  • Analysis of the effect of isolated brain death on organ perfusion and the transplant function
  • Monitoring of cortex perfusion after kidney transplantation using the thermodiffusion technique.
  • Quantifying regional perfusion inhomogeneity following liver ischemia and transplantation.
  • Evaluation of the efficiency of sealing products for biliostasis following liver resection / gallbladder surgery.
  • Intravital microscopic examinations of the effects of glycine and taurine on liver perfusion and function.
  • Clinical study to evaluate the effect of glycine on the post-operative transplant function (HEGPOL-Study)
  • The significance of Kupffer's cells for the development of ischemia/reperfusion damage
  • The significance of Kupffer's cells in inflammatory processes, sepsis, hepatitis, steatosis, cirrhosis
  • The efficiency of gadolinium chloride for the reduction of conservation damage ischemia / transplant
  • Experimental and clinical evaluations concerning the practicability of Stapler-hepatectomy.
  • 3D-CT based planning in living liver donation
  • Biomonitoring of immune suppression
