Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Cell Biology (WP2)

Project description
Our scientific work is focused on the analysis of growth factor signaling in cutaneous regeneration and carcinogenesis in close collaboration with several national and international institutions (e.g., German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Columbia University, Nationales Zentrum für Tumorerkrankungen (NCT), and BIOQUANT). Based on time-resolved expression profiling of stimulated primary human keratinocytes, we have defined a dynamic gene regulatory network controlling cell migration in epidermal wound healing (Schnickmann et al., 2008 J Invest Dermatol; Busch et al., 2008 Mol Syst Biol).
We aim at i) defining the role of growth factors critically involved in keratinocyte decision processes regulating initiation of proliferation and migration; ii) systems biology approaches to combinatory effects of growth factors using appropriate in vitro and in vitro model systems.
This position, funded by the BMBF, is available to start as soon as possible and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of three years. Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-L). The position will be hosted by the Institute of Pathology, University of Heidelberg (Molecular Tumorpathology: https://www.klinikum.uni-heidelberg.de/AG-Breuhahn.118799.0.html).

You will have a recent PhD with a strong emphasis on cell biology, molecular biology, or systems biology. Excellent skills in eukaryotic cell culture (ideally of primary epithelial cells or keratinocytes) as well as in molecular-based and biochemical methods (e.g., nucleic acid and protein isolation, western blotting and real-time PCR, cloning and transfection) are essential. We look for a candidate, able to work independently and to collaborate efficiently within a multidisciplinary team. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for this position.

How to apply
Applications including CV, previous research experience, lists of publications and experimental skills as well as contact details and email addresses of 2 academic referees should be sent via e-mail until 28th February 2009 to Kai Breuhahn (medsys.pathology.heidelberg@googlemail.com).
