Latin America

If you are planning to go on a trip to Latin America, we strongly recommend you to schedule an appointment for a personal pre-travel consultation, ideally 6-8 weeks before departure.

General information:

Yellow Fever

We recommend a yellow fever vaccination for South America except Chile and Uruguay. In Central America vaccination is only necessary for Panama. Some countries require your to have a valid certificate for entry. The yellow fever vaccine should be administered at least two weeks before departure.

Malaria

There is a risk of malaria in tropical South America, Central America, Haiti, and parts of the Dominican Republic throughout the year. To prevent malaria an appropriate medication adapted to the travelling person and the destination is highly recommended.

Hepatitis A and B

Active vaccination against Hepatitis A and B is recommended in general.

Typhoid and Rabies

Depending on the destination, time and conditions of travel, vaccinations against typhoid and rabies might also be necessary. In this case, a personal consultation is indispensable.

Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis

A vaccine against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis should be administered if the last vaccine has been administered more than ten years ago.

Cholera

WHO recommends cholera vaccination for high-risk groups (e.g. emergency relief workers) only.
