Section Clinical… Consultation Hours … Travel Medicine… Asia

If you are planning to go on a trip to Asia, we strongly recommend you to schedule an appointment for a personal pre-travel consultation, ideally 6-8 weeks before departure.

General information:

There is a risk of Malaria in many Asian countries. To prevent malaria an appropriate medication adapted to the travelling person and the destination is highly recommended.

Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio and Pertussis

Vaccines should be administered every ten years.

Hepatitis A and B

Active vaccination against Hepatitis A and B is recommended in general.

Typhoid, Meningococcal Meningitis and Rabies

Depending on the destination, time and conditions of travel, vaccination against typhoid, meningococcal meningitis and rabies might also be necessary. The tetravalent meningitis vaccine is required for individuals travelling to Mecca. A personal consultation is indispensable.

Japanese Encephalitis

Vaccination against Japanese encephalitis is only recommended if you plan to stay in endemic rural regions of South-East Asia for a longer time. The question of whether you actually need the vaccine can only be answered in the individual case.

WHO recommends cholera vaccination for high-risk groups (e.g. emergency relief workers) only.

Yellow Fever

Yellow fever vaccination is not requried for Asia.
