Dr. Florian Neuhann

Scientist

Florian Neuhann is a board certified internal medicine specialist. Apart from clinical work focusing on chronic care for both infectious and non-infectious diseases, he has worked in the field of environmental health and epidemiology in Germany, followed by work as a consultant physician in teaching hospitals in Tanzania and Malawi. He joined the institute following his work in the HIV program in Malawi in 2005.

His focus lies on capacity strengthening, training of health care providers, quality improvement for prevention, treatment and care e.g. Diabetes care under constraint resources and models of delivery for a continuum HIV care and treatment outcomes with a geographic focus in Southern Africa. He is also involved in TB control in Germany in affiliation with the Cologne municipal health authority. He teaches mainly on topics of disease control - HIV, Tb and NCD applying rights based approaches. Health and Human Rights is an important issue for his work. He is one of the coordinators for the course Applying a rights based approach in achieving health related SDGs.
