Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Working Group

After his studies in biology Volker Winkler did his PhD within the DFG graduate program 793 ‘Epidemiology of communicable and chronic, non-communicable diseases and their interrelationships’. In 2015, he became Deputy Head of the unit ’Epidemiology and Biostatistics’ within the Institute of Global Health. In 2016, he received the venia legendi in epidemiology.

His two main research interests are ‘Non-communicable diseases in low and middle income countries’ and ‘Migrant Health’ focusing on individuals from the former Soviet Union. Generally, his research as well as his teaching activities focus on topics using quantitative methods.
