Sonali Wayal
Research Group Leader for ‘Population Mental and Cognitive Health’
Dr Sonali Wayal is a global health researcher with training in Social Epidemiology and Public Health, Political Science and International Development, and mixed-methods research. Her research focuses on (i) clinic- and population-based serological and behavioural surveillance; (ii) addressing health inequalities by developing and evaluating effectiveness of innovative diagnostic, digital, mass media, social and behaviour change interventions; (iii) implementation science; and (iv) health services research. Intersectionality - encompassing gender, race/ethnicity, sexual identity, underlines her research focus and interest.
She leads the ‘Population Mental and Cognitive Health’ Research Group at HIGH. The group conducts research on mental and cognitive health across the life course, focusing on structural, social and digital determinants of health, policies, and scalable population-based interventions to reduce health inequalities.
Dr Wayal has been the co-investigator on grants funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), United Kingdom (UK). She is a Visiting Researcher at the Institute for Global Health, University College London, UK.
She has published articles in peer-reviewed journals including in The Lancet, The Lancet HIV, The Lancet Public Health, British Journal of Medicine, Social Science and Medicine, etc.
