Global Mental Health: Public Health Approaches

The course meets for 1 week for a total of 60 hours of SIT: 31 direct contact hours and 29 hours self-directed learning. TropEd students can earn 2 ECTS points.

Entry Requirements

"Global Mental Health: Public Health Approaches" is held in English. Course participants should have excellent command/high level of proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English. It's part time students only.

Content Overview

  • GMH epidemiology and burden of disease
  • GMH policy, strategy and service development
  • Cultural aspects of GMH with a perspective on case definitions
  • Needs assessment for GMH in crisis situation
  • GMH and its manifestations: clinical cases
  • Therapeutic approaches in GMH
  • Anthropological concepts of GMH
  • GMH case studies (from participants’ home countries)

Learning Objectives

This course aims to provide students with the necessary tools to develop and to successfully implement evidence-informed decisions in GMH. At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Critically analyse the epidemiology and social determinants of mental disorders globally and identify strategies to address the burden of disease
  • To critically appraise examples of research and treatment/intervention models at regional level given different levels of resources

Course Fee

  • General Admittance: € 750.-
  • tropEd students: € 500.-

Included in the course fee is a non-refundable registration fee of € 200.-

Unfortunately, no Scholarships are available.

If the participant withdraws from the course

  • less than 6 weeks prior: 25 % of the course fee will be charged.
  • less than 4 weeks prior: 50 % of the course fee will be charged.
  • less than 2 weeks prior: the whole course fee will be charged.

The tuition fee does not include accommodation, insurance or other personal living costs during the stay.
