Berlin Health Award 2023

21.06.2023

The nationwide cooperation network for a SGB - comprehensive care for families affected by mental and addictive disorders received the special prize at this year's award ceremony of the 13th Berlin Health Award. The award, under the motto "Shaping health equitably", thus honored the network, which is committed to helping children of mentally, addicted and/or chronically ill parents grow up healthily. In doing so, the network relies on interdisciplinary cooperation between help and care systems for affected children across the boundaries of the social security codes. Sabine Walper and our institute director Beate Ditzen initiated this project as spokeswomen and in the name of the interest group family psychology of the German Society for Psychology (DGPs) at the side of further cooperation partners.

Mastering (Life) Crises "Pairwise" - a new training offer "Pairwise

Spring 2024

The partnership is considered both a resource and a source of crisis - especially in changing life situations, be it when one partner becomes physically or mentally ill, two partners become parents or one partner dies. Accompanying people in these life crises is an integral part of our therapeutic or counseling work. At the same time, however, working with couples requires prior knowledge and therapeutic/counseling skills that are different from working with individuals and that unsettle many colleagues. This is where we would like to start with our training series and provide you with basic knowledge as well as basic intervention possibilities for working with couples in (life) crises.

Target group

The training series is primarily aimed at psychotherapeutic and psycho-social professionals as well as psychologists and physicians in psychotherapeutic training or continuing education.

The start of the continuing education series is planned for spring 2024.

Further information on the individual seminars, contents, lecturers, seminar times, etc. will follow shortly.

Working groups-

Visit

June 22, 2017

Visiting the working group around Prof. Urs Nater in Marburg.

On June 22, our (almost) complete working group headed to Marburg to visit the Clinical Biopsychology working group of the Psychological Institute here.

The program included a guided tour through the biochemical laboratory and two exciting lectures on intercultural research and music therapy. A thunderstorm briefly jeopardized our tour of the city, so we were able to enjoy (ice) coffee and cake especially well afterwards. The already very successful cooperation between the two AGs is to be continued in the future.

We are looking forward to it!

Marsilius Symposium

April 7, 2017

Surrogacy - Current developments and interdisciplinary challenges.

Scientists presented current developments and discussed challenges from an interdisciplinary perspective

Different aspects of surrogacy were the subject of an interdisciplinary symposium hosted by the Marsilius-Kolleg of Heidelberg University on April 7, 2017. Experts from Germany and abroad discussed the basics and effects of this practice, which is not only prohibited in Germany and involves another woman giving birth to a child in place of the genetic mother. The topic of surrogacy was examined from psychological and medical, legal and ethical, as well as historical and personal perspectives. The event was organized in cooperation with the Institute for Foreign and International Private and Commercial Law. A total of more than 120 participants from all over Germany took part. The individual contributions will be published in a conference volume.Link to Marsilius-Kolleg

Shooting of educational videos

A series of educational videos on doctor-patient interactions were filmed at the Institute of Medical Psychology. The range of topics covered here ranged from patient education situations in reproductive medicine to family discussions in adolescent adjustment disorders to educational discussions in palliative care. Various medical directors, clinicians, and psychologists from the university hospital were involved, taking on the role of the physician in the doctor-patient conversations. These videos will later be made available to medical students on an online teaching platform to provide insight into physician conversation in a variety of situations.

Television article

Mona Lisa (ZDF) on "Private sperm donation".

Since the legal situation of family formation through sperm donation is still insufficiently regulated in Germany, the introduction of a sperm donor registry is currently being discussed. What this project means for the so-called private sperm donation, and which gaps still remain open, is critically discussed in this Mona Lisa article, among others also by Tewes Wischmann from our institute.

Congress of the DGMP and DGMS September 28-30, 2016.

Gemy joint congress of the German Society for Medical Sociology and the German Society for Medical Psychology.

Our institute was prominently represented at the joint annual congress of the DGMS and DGMP in Berlin at the end of September 2016, both in terms of personnel (see photo) and with 5 lectures and 6 posters featuring many of our research fields.

Also very pleasing: Beate Ditzen was elected as an assessor in the DGPM board. All in all, a very successful congress in the late summer capital!

And what do scientists say about the risks? In addition to the now adult "test-tube babies" and their mothers, experts were also interviewed, including Tewes Wischmann from our institute.

Open Day and Inaugural Lecture Prof. Ditzen

April 15, 2016

Open day and inaugural lecture of Prof. Dr. Beate Ditzen

At the open day in our institute we were pleased to welcome many interested guests and visitors. We were able to successfully present the three basic areas of research, teaching and therapy, as well as our rooms from the historical lecture hall to the research laboratory. The mini-experiments from our research directly to participate, as well as presentations about our teaching offer and our institute outpatient clinic were a great experience for our visitors - but also for us (Progamm).

At the end of the day, the inaugural lecture on "Partnership and Health: Psychobiological Mechanisms and Research Perspectives" by Prof. Dr. Beate Ditzen took place in the Old Auditorium of Heidelberg University. A full lecture hall confirmed that this topic as well as the new director of the institute meet with a broad interest. (Information)

We thank all visitors and helpers who contributed to the success of this day!

Visit of the working group Clinical Biopsychology (headed by Prof. Nater) in Heidelberg.

March 22, 2016

Visit of the working group Clinical Biopsychology (headed by Prof. Dr. Urs M. Nater) of the University of Marburg to us in Heidelberg.

In order to maintain the close cooperation between the two research groups and to initiate future joint projects, we received a visit from Prof. Nater and his research group from Marburg. Through short presentations we were able to bring each other up to date on our projects and interests. Finally, we had a tour through Heidelberg and dinner at the Brauhaus. Thank you very much for the nice day!
