Dr. Julia Lohmann

PhD, MSc

Postdoctoral researcher

Julia is a health systems researcher with a background in psychology and a specific research interest in Human Resources for Health. Her areas of expertise include impact and process evaluation of complex health systems interventions as well as exploratory and cross-sectional research in low and middle income countries, using mixed and multi-methods approaches. She has particular experience in the measurement of psychological and other complex intangible constructs with psychometric methods in settings yet lacking culturally appropriate, validated measurement tools.

Julia was a research assistant and PhD student at HIGH from 2012 to 2019, working on impact evaluations of Performance-based Financing in Malawi and Burkina Faso. In March 2019, she joined the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine as a Wellcome Trust-funded postdoctoral fellow, but continues to work with HIGH on various projects. At LSHTM, she leads a research project aiming to assess psychological wellbeing of health workers across 12 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and to understand reasons for poor (or good) psychological wellbeing as well as potential consequences for performance and turnover, using both quantitative and qualitative methods
