Implementation research for prevention and disease control

The projects, developed in this research group, have for main objective an improved understanding of the impact of different factors on the loss of effectiveness, from the bench to the field, in Low- and Middle-Income countries (LMICs), in order to inform current strategies to increase interventions’ effectiveness. We combine expertise in quantitative, qualitative, biological and mixed-methods research.

We analyse not only the processes used to implement policies and interventions, investigating all aspects of implementation, including the contextual factors that affect these processes but also the uptake of interventions activities as well as the impact on health outcomes.

Our current research activities address the following themes:

  • Antimicrobial Resistance
    • Using design thinking approach to define and refine an intervention to improve awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance through effective communication, education and training
    • Implementation and evalution of an Antimicrobial Stewardship Intervention

  • Interventions in the field of healthcare seeking behaviours and access to healthcare
  • e-Health to improve adherence to treatment and lifestyle recommendations in the field of non-communicable diseases
