5th Heidelberg Spring Symposium Medical Informatics - Medical Information Systems for Innovative Research and Care
May 12, 2027, 12:00 to 16:00
Venue: Marsilius-Arkaden at Heidelberg University Hospital, lunch included
(100 participants on-site and live-broadcast via Internet)
Information systems are an important foundation for excellent patient care and research in medicine. Digital medicine can only be successfully implemented if excellent information systems are available. After the very successful Symposium 2026 , we would like to promote scientific exchange in Europe and Germany on this topic and therefore cordially invite you to the 5th Heidelberg Spring Symposium on Medical Informatics. As in the previous year, a prize will be awarded for the best presentation.
The aim of the Symposium is to present current research and deepen discussions in the field of medical information systems on following general topics:
• Patient Trajectories: How to improve patient outcomes?
• Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS)
• Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs)
• Patient-centered Digital Health Applications
Given the significant advances in AI-based technologies, and in particular those based on large language models (LLMs), authors are especially encouraged to submit abstracts on the specific topic of clinical translation of AI-based software as per MDR and AI Act:
• AI in medical information systems: What makes it a medical device?
• Inhouse development as per MDR: Challenges and benefits for academic institutions.
• LLM-based CDSS and agentic AI: Technology, benefits, risks and a regulatory view.
• By clinicians, for clinicians: Medical vibe coding under regulatory constraints.
• AI-supported software development in a research context.
Abstracts (max. 350 words / 5 references) can be submitted until January 15, 2027 (submission deadline)
