OPEN POSITION for a PhD Student in the research group of Mathias Munschauer at Heidelberg University - Download as PDF file
The Munschauer Lab at the Centre for Integrative Infectious Disease Research (CIID) is seeking a highly motivated doctoral researcher in the area of Molecular Virology or RNA Biology to work on an innovative ERC-funded research project. The project is centered on the systematic functional dissection of RNA-protein complexes at the virus-host interface and will bring together experimental and computational scientists. The Munschauer Lab takes an RNA-centric and a systems biology-inspired approach to study how RNA viruses interface with their hosts and how host cells respond to infection. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary and international team of computational and experimental scientists, gaining unique opportunities to develop and apply a cutting-edge suite of systems virology techniques to dissect the RNA biology of viruses and their hosts. This role provides ample opportunities for professional growth within an innovative research environment committed to scientific excellence and collaboration.
Your tasks are:
- Dissect RNA-protein interactions during viral infection with high spatial and temporal resolution
- Characterize transcriptome, proteome and interactome dynamics in advanced virus infection models
- Work with diverse RNA viruses (IAV, RSV, SARS-CoV-2, DENV, ZIKV) in a BSL-2 and BSL-3 environment
- Collaborate with wet lab scientists and bioinformaticians
Desired qualifications are:
- A Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or a related field in the life sciences
- Background or specialization in Molecular Virology or RNA Biology would be ideal
- Experience working with infectious material, particularly RNA viruses is desired
- Strong written and spoken English language communication skills
- Highly motivated, organized, collaborative and independent
What we offer:
- A dynamic growth environment for your professional and personal advancement
- Access to state-of-the-art laboratories and infrastructure as well as flexible working hours
- Networking opportunity and visibility in wide-spread national networks of highest quality
- Access to many university-offers such as job-ticket, active health promotion and possibility of childcare (crèche and kindergarten)
- A creative and vibrant environment in an international, science-oriented, and one of the most beautiful cities in Germany
- An internationally highly competitive salary according to the Baden-Württemberg civil service remuneration system (TV-L E13)
