Postdoc in Cardiac RNA Bioinformatics (m/f/d)

As soon as possible searched for the division of Bioinformatics and Systems Cardiology at the Klaus Tschira Institute for Integrative Computational Cardiology / Department of Internal Medicine III.

The position is initially limited to 2 years with option if further extension.

The successful applicant will enter a collaborative research environment focusing on the role of RNA biology in cardiac health and disease. We are looking for a talented young investigator to drive our understanding of elementary processes such as RNA modification, splicing and translation in the heart. You have the opportunity to participate in cross-disciplinary consortia such as DFG-funded priority programs SPP1784 & SPP1935, the Informatics for Life initiative and EU-CardioRNA.

Tasks

You will implement existing and develop new computational methods for the analysis and interpretation of data from at least two research areas:

  • Direct RNA sequencing data
  • Single Cell RNA sequencing data
  • Predictive Machine Learning Models for RNA biology (Splicing, NMD)

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidates will have a PhD or equivalent in Bioinformatics, Physics, Statistics or a related discipline. You offer solid expertise in machine learning techniques and are fully competent in managing the underlying statistical challenges. Moreover, you are happy to work in a highly interdisciplinary team, which focuses on key questions in cardiac RNA biology. A proven competence in scripting/programming (i.e. at least two out of C/C++, R, Python, Java) is essential. Other relevant qualifications include a good understanding of RNA Biology.

The division of Bioinformatics and Systems Cardiology at the Klaus Tschira Institute for Integrative Computational Cardiology & Department of Internal Medicine III, seeks to fill one full-time position:

Data Scientist in Computational Cardiology (m/f/d)

Starting date: as soon as possible / Duration: Initially 2 years; option of further extension (dissertation)

The successful applicant will enter a collaborative research environment focusing on integrated data analytics in cardiac disorders. Our primary use case is concerned with heart failure, a high incident disease with serious vital risks. Within the HiGHmed consortium (highmed.org), we aim to integrate data from clinical routine, mobile apps and sensors to identify high-risk patients and to predict decompensation events. Another branch of our activities is concerned with information from unstructured data sources (NLP), which are abundant in clinical routine. We are looking for a talented individual to expand our activities in data integration, analytics and modeling.

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidates will have a MSc or equivalent in Data Science, Physics, Statistics or a related discipline. You offer solid expertise in handling high-throughput data sets and are fully competent in managing the underlying statistical challenges. Moreover, you are happy to work in a highly interdisciplinary team. A proven competence in scripting/programming (i.e. at least two out of R, Python, Java) is essential. Other relevant qualifications include a good understanding of the aforementioned data sources and cardiology.
