Heidelberg experts discuss new therapy options for liver tumors

The treatment of liver cancer is changing: new diagnostic methods, innovative surgical techniques, improved locoregional therapies, and approaches to personalized system therapy were established in recent years. Various clinical trials address new therapy forms for patients with liver cancer and require the close interdisciplinary cooperation of all participating specialists.

1. Heidelberg Liver Tumor Symposium

The experts of the Liver Cancer Center Heidelberg (LCCH) discussed new therapy strategies together with regional liver tumor clinicians at the 1. Heidelberg Liver Tumor Symposium that took place at the University Hospital Heidelberg on 14.03.2015. The focus was on the latest findings in therapy of the hepatocellular carcinoma.

Europe-wide distinguished liver and transplantation surgery

The best patient-oriented therapy always requires the expertise of the different specialized departments. The Heidelberg clinic with its Europe-wide distinguished liver and transplantation surgery under the leadership of Prof. M. Büchler offers a central core for the curative treatment of liver tumors. The site offers not only the high-end method of the interventional radiology (TACE, ablation), but also the selective internal radiotherapy (radioembolisation) and furthermore – unique in the region – the heavy ion radiation in the HIT. A clear focussing on a bioptic diagnosis helps to develop new therapy options e.g. in studies to personalized therapy.

Best interdisciplinary cooperation

Unique feature of the patient care is the central structure of the Liver Cancer Center Heidelberg guaranteeing the best interdisciplinary cooperation and, thus, the best possible therapy for the patient.
