Abstract:

The aim of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) is to develop innovative technology to assist elderly or disabled people living at home. The more technical solutions are integrated the more data about daily live are available. This data can be systematically collected, analysed and provided for the AAL-user, relatives or for health care institutions to achieve a higher sustainability, technology-acceptance, security, robustness and better decisions concerning the users health. To enable comprehensive storage and dedicated provision of data basic research is necessary. Open questions concern e.g. data privacy, authorization, algorithms, reference models, user interfaces, hardware- and internet platforms. Requirements and solutions have to be developed independent of a particular project. Unfortunately, these questions are not sufficiently represented in the current AAL research community. Therefore, we have established a Working Group IT within the BMBF/VDE ‘Innovationspartnerschaft AAL’. Aim of the working group is to identify the potential, the requirements as well as the demand for research and promotion. Recommendations for secure, sensible and efficient use of IT enhancing AAL will be developed.
