Heidelberg University with nine highly cited researchers

Zusammenfassung

International evaluation names researchers whose publications have been cited most frequently worldwide / Citation frequency as an indication of scientific influence

Press release of Heidelberg University

Heidelberg University is represented by nine scientists in the recently published list of "Highly Cited Researchers". This international evaluation names researchers whose publications in their respective fields - the list covers a total of 22 disciplines in the natural, life and social sciences - have been cited most frequently worldwide or who have achieved an outstanding publication record across several disciplines. Five of Ruperto Carola's nine most-cited scientists are represented in this "Cross-Field" category.

Among the most cited scientists in his field worldwide is Prof. Dr. Ralf Bartenschlager (Microbiology), who is thus on the list of "Highly Cited Researchers" for the ninth time in a row. Prof. Dr. Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg (Cross-Field) is listed for the eighth time in succession. Prof. Dr. Andreas von Deimling (Neurosciences and Behavioral Sciences) is on the list for the seventh time, as is Prof. Dr. Werner Hacke (Cross-Field) for the fifth time in a row. As in the previous year, the most cited researchers include Prof. Dr. Uwe Haberkorn (Clinical Medicine) as well as Prof. Dr. Stefan Pfister and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wick (both Cross-Field). New additions are Prof. Dr. Frederik Giesel (Clinical Medicine) and Prof. Dr. Jessica Hassel (Cross Field).

The citation frequency measures how often a publication is cited in the publications of colleagues. It is thus considered an important indicator of the scientific influence of a publication. For the current list of "Highly Cited Researchers" published by Clarivate Analytics, publications from the years 2010 to 2020 were included in the evaluation. Publications are rated as "highly cited" if they are among the "top 1 percent" of the most cited publications in the respective discipline and in their respective publication year. The list has existed since 2001; it was revised for the first time in 2014 and has been published annually since then. It currently includes a total of around 6,300 researchers, of which around 2,800 scientists are assigned to the interdisciplinary "Cross-Field" category.
