Institute for Immunology

History of the Institute

The Institute for Immunology of Heidelberg is one of the oldest as well as one of the most important institutions of its kind in Germany. It was established as "Institute for experimental cancer research" back in 1906 by Vincenz Czerny who also became the first director of the institute. Thus the institute can look back on an almost 100 years old history.

To give a short overview of the history and development of this fascinating and important discipline in medical science here in Heidelberg we have gathered some information on the following pages. You will also find all information about the upcoming 100-year celebration in 2006 there.
