Guillain-Barré syndrome

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a rare disease (100 cases per 1 million inhabitants) of the nerve network outside the brain and spinal cord (= peripheral nervous system). The body's own immune system mistakenly attacks part of the peripheral nervous system, causing damage of varying degrees.
