MOG-IGG-associated encephalomyelitis

Disease definition

In adults, the disease predominantly affects the optic nerves, spinal cord, and brain stem. It is characterized by repeated inflammation of the optic nerves and, as the second most common manifestation, inflammation of the spinal cord, which can lead to permanent vision loss and limited mobility. Less commonly, foci of inflammation also form in the brain, causing symptoms such as sensory disturbances, paralysis, and balance disorders, similar to the clinical picture of acute demyelinating encephalomyelitis (ADEM).
