NEW_LIVES symposium: A framework for a German gNBS program acceptable from a ethical, legal and social (ELSI) as well as medical perspective

What medical opportunities and societal challenges are associated with genomic newborn screening?

On July 18, 2025, NEW_LIVES is cordially inviting participants to a conference in Heidelberg. At the center of the event will be the presentation and discussion of the multi-dimensional framework for an appropriate genomic newborn screening program from an ethical, legal and social (ELSI) as well as medical perspective that was developed in the project.

The program will include contributions from experts in medical ethics, law, medical psychology, human genetics, paediatrics as well as patient representatives; in addition, there will be an exchange with Genomics England ethics team involved in oversee the sequencing of 100,000 newborns in the United Kingdom in the coming years as part of the Generation Study

Beside specialists from related fields, the event is aimed at the public, media, and representatives from society and politics.
