Just published: Special issue of "Ethik in der Medizin" on "Ethical issues in genomic newborn screening"
Volume 37, Issue 3, Ethik in der Medizin
The articles on the ethical challenges of genomic newborn screening, some of which were already available online in advance, have now been published in the special issue “Ethical Issues in Genomic Newborn Screening" (https://link.springer.com/journal/481/volumes-and-issues/37-3):
- The special issue in the journal Ethik in Medicine, the official journal of the AEM (German Academy for Ethics in Medicine), begins with an editorial by the two guest editors Sascha Settegast (coordinator of NEW_LIVES between 2022 and 2024) and Eva Winkler (project spokesperson of NEW_LIVES).
- This is followed by a two-part review article on the ethical and normative aspects by members the NEW_LIVES group.
- The remaining eight original articles bring together perspectives from authors in Germany, including two further contributions from the NEW_LIVES group (Doll et al. "Die elterliche Autonomie bei der Entscheidungsfindung über ein genomisches Neugeborenen-Screening – psychosoziale und ethische Aspekte" and Straub/Müller-Terpitz "Rechtliche Aspekte der Nutzung und Aufbewahrung von Proben aus einem (genomischen) Neugeborenen-Screening") and the NEW_LIVES Advisory Board (Kramheller/Rehmann-Sutter "Ethik der genetischen Kommunikation im Kontext des genomischen Neugeborenen-Screenings: Hermeneutische Überlegungen und zwei Fallbeispiele") with international perspectives on genomic newborn screening (e.g., Ross "The case against genomic sequencing of healthy newborns").
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this special issue!
