Cardiology Career Program

[Translate to English:] Cardiology Career Program

The Department of Cardiology, Angiology and Pneumology at the Heidelberg University Hospital (Medical Director: Prof. Dr. Hugo A. Katus) has established a career programme to accompany the students' studies. The "Cardiology Career Program" (CCP) is aimed at medical students who are interested in doing their doctoral thesis in Heidelberg cardiology or who have already started research work here. The CCP includes courses that go beyond the HeiCuMed curriculum, which contribute to the professionalisation of young scientists and enable participants to integrate into the department at an early stage.

Annual retreats are dedicated to the presentation and subsequent discussion of dissertation projects and are intended to contribute to the development of scientific discussion skills. The retreats also serve as an information exchange and offer opportunities for interaction and exchange of experience among all doctoral students and with the lecturers. In addition, the retreats teach interdisciplinary qualifications such as project management and the writing of scientific publications and dissertations.

In addition to the retreats, the program offers voluntary introductions to cardiological diagnostics and therapy and enables participation in clinical case conferences, scientific training, and the elective subject "Molecular Cardiology". It is up to the candidates to select specific offers of the program according to their needs.

In addition, a limited number of particularly qualified candidates will be financed as research assistants for 6 months during the doctoral thesis at the request of the supervisor.

Participation in the CCP is intended for all new candidates and for the current doctoral candidates of the Clinic for Cardiology, Angiology and Pneumology. The admission of new doctoral candidates takes place after personal interviews with supervisors of potential doctoral projects that are eligible for the candidate.

Participation in the program requires the applicant's motivation to actively contribute to building the scientific community within the Cardiology Career Program.
