Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Care during the CORONA Pandemic

Current changes in our clinic to protect against the Corona virus.

The Corona pandemic is currently posing major challenges to clinical care in general. However, the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is particularly challenged because mentally ill children and adolescents and their stressed families require special attention and support.

In order to protect the children and adolescents and our staff* from infection by the Corona virus and to be able to help out the University Hospital with staffing for the treatment of affected patients, the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry has decided on the following measures:

From 27.04.2020, our day clinic will be gradually reopened conforming to special hygiene rules. This also applies to our outpatient clinic and wards.

Urgent psychiatric admissions in acute crises are possible. In this case, please contact our outpatient clinic during the day (Tel.: 56-6914/15) or the gate of the general psychiatry department outside office hours and on weekends (Tel. 56-4466). If your child or you have symptoms, have been in a high-risk area, or have had contact with someone infected, please indicate this on the phone. You will be given a telephone appointment to clarify how to proceed.

For people who feel particularly stressed by the pandemic, the Center for Psychosocial Medicine has its own counseling service. You can find more information here as well as some helpful recommendations for this time.

The Center for Psychosocial Medicine offers uncomplicated and rapid psychosocial support for employees of Heidelberg University Hospital who are suffering from acute symptoms of stress and strain as a result of the current challenges. Further information for employees can be found here.
