Research Topics and Focuses

Experimental Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

The research section for „Experimental Child and Adolescent Psychiatry” under the direction of PD Dr. Julian Koenig, was established in August 2018 at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. It focusses on the development of methods for psychophysiological (electrocardiography) and neuroimaging (functional near-infrared spectroscopy and magnetic resonance imaging) research, as well as the establishment of experimental approaches towards the development of innovative interventions in child and adolescent psychiatry (neuromodulation). The group follows a trans-diagnostic approach in association with various clinical divisions and ongoing research projects at the clinic. Alongside own studies involving behavioral experiments and neuropsychological assessments in patients at the clinic and those recruited from the general public, ongoing projects use data from the public domain for secondary analyses of large-scale population-based samples and animal studies. In close cooperation with the research section for "Translational Child and Adolescent Psychiatry" as well as national and international collaboration partner, one current focus of research is the development and function of the autonomic nervous system in children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders.
