Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is the leading infectious disease killer globally with 1.5M deaths every year. The work of the group focuses on diagnostic test development, evaluation and implementation. Major diagnostic gaps remain for Tuberculosis in early identification of clinical and sub-clinical cases as well as resistance detection. To meet the SDG targets on TB elimination, diagnostic tools to a) find the “over 3M missing cases” i.e. cases that are not diagnosed and reported, and b) support universal and expanded Drug Susceptibility Testing (DST), are essential. The team works on several projects in countries primarily in Africa and Asia to evaluate diagnostic tests in their performance, ease of use and assess best implementation practices.
