Conference "Climate protection at the UKHD".
Day 1: Monday, July 11, 2022
The two-day conference started on Monday, July 11, 2022 with an exciting series of lectures on current activities related to climate protection in hospitals. This day was organized together with the 'Network Sustainability' (NENA), an association of committed employees. Among the approximately 50 participants were representatives of the 'Sustainability Network', members of the steering group of the KliOL project, employees from various clinical and administrative departments of the UKHD as well as scientists from other German research projects on sustainability in hospitals.
The conference day was concluded by the first meeting of the scientific advisory board of the KliOL project, held at the premises of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research (ifeu). The aim of the advisory board meeting was in particular to network with each other in order to first get to know the other projects and to be able to coordinate better. In addition, the exchange of information on the CO2 balancing of hospitals was also an important point of the meeting.
Day 2: Tuesday, July 12, 2022
Six workshops were held on the second day of the conference, and specific climate protection measures at the UKHD were discussed in small groups. In the areas of food supply, anesthesia, inhalers, waste disposal, business travel and purchasing, barriers were identified, approaches to solutions discussed and next steps determined. Following the individual workshops, common barriers and solution approaches were summarized in a plenary session. A total of about 35 people were involved on the second day.

Report on the second meeting of the internal steering group
On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, the second meeting of the internal steering group of the KliOL project took place. Due to Corona, this meeting was held online. The overall objectives of the meeting were to present the current status of the KliOL project, to present and discuss the first results of the GHG calculator and to identify areas for action planning.
For this purpose, based on the preliminary results of the GHG calculator and the discussion, the following five areas were identified: Medical Products, Medication, Mobility, Food Service, and Anesthesia (medical gas and waste). The next step will be to identify specific actions for the above areas, during an action workshop in July 2022.
The next meeting will take place in the course of the conference "Climate protection at the UKHD" on July 11 and 12, 2022.

Report on the first meeting of the internal steering group
On Wednesday, 01 December 2021, the first meeting of the internal steering group of the KliOL project took place. Due to the Corona Pandemic, the meeting was held online. The overall goal of this meeting was to introduce the KliOL project and the GHG calculator under development. In addition, together with the participants, we identified contact persons who could contribute to the generation of the GHG calculator's data basis.
For this purpose, the responsibilities for each category were discussed based on 13 categories of the French ADEME Guideline. The system boundaries of the accounting with regard to subsidiary companies and other cooperations of the UKHD were also discussed. The next step will now be to build up the data basis for the calculator together with the contacts from the steering group.
The next meeting of the internal steering group will take place in the first quarter of 2022.
