The interaction of a virus with its host cell is a highly dynamic process. While traditional virological and biochemical methods yield 'still images' of biological processes, modern microscopic techniques allow the analysis of dynamic processes inside a living cell in real time. We have generated and characterized fluorescently labelled HIV derivatives, which enable us to study HIV entry and release by live-cell microscopy.

Forschungssgruppe Schnitzler

We are investigating antiviral agents against infections caused by herpes simplex virus. Our main interest are essential oils and natural products as possible antiviral agents and the mechanism of their antiviral action in virus infected cells.
