Is a research institute that is located at the University of Heidelberg and that focuses its research activities on hepatitis viruses (HCV & HBV) and Dengue virus as well as innate immunity. As part of the medical and biological faculty the department Molecular Virology participates in training of medical students in the field of virology and is also involved in lectures, seminars and practical training for students in biological sciences.
The creation of the department has been made possible by the Chica und Heinz Schaller Stiftung. This institution finances the position of the department head for the first 10 years and in addition provided a start-up support to help setting up the department.
