The Pediatric Clinical Pharmacological Trial Center (paedKliPS) is a pediatric Early Clinical Trial Unit (PECTU) certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. paedKliPS has been conducting early clinical drug trials since 2018 in children, adolescents and (young) adults with pediatric, non-oncological diseases and is financially supported by the Dietmar Hopp Stiftung.
paedKliPS is a collaborative institution of University Children’s Hospital Heidelberg (Geschäftsführender Ärztlicher Direktor: Prof. Dr. med., Prof. h.c. mult. (RCH) Georg F. Hoffmann) and the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacoepidemiology (Medical Director: Prof. Dr. med. Walter E. Haefeli, FBPhS). Thus paedKliPS combines clinical pediatric expertise especially in rare diseases with decades of experience in the GCP-compliant conduct of clinical drug trials of the early phases 0-2 including proof-of-concept studies and First Application.
Using the best infrastructure this cooperation leads to excellent recruitment rates of children and adolescents with various rare diseases in clinical trials. The group utilizes state-of-the-art conduct of complex trial protocols (incl. first-in-diseased-child) with challenging therapeutics, including gene therapy. With its network of expertise and the thematic orientation, this institution is unique in Central Europe.
paedKliPS is also a training and continuous education center for medical and non-medical study personnel. It enables the double specialist qualification in pediatrics and adolescent medicine/clinical pharmacology.
