Miguel Antonio Salazar

Doctoral student

Miguel took his bachelor of science degree in psychology from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2004 then gained his doctor of medicine degree from the University of the Philippines Manila in 2009. He then took his Master of Science in International Health in the Institute of Global Health in Heidelberg in 2015. He has work and research experience in health information management in local and national levels of government looking at routine information systems, disaster recovery and rehabilitation, and disease surveillance post-disasters. He has previous engagements with the WHO Philippine country office and the WHO European Center for Environment and Health as well as with local NGOs and a social enterprise in the Philippines.

Currently he is looking at the health consequences of natural hazards and complex emergencies in the Philippines using a syndromic surveillance system for disasters. He is also looking into disease trends of climate related events also in the Philippines using routine health information systems.
