B4: Molecular Control of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Dormancy

Andreas Trumpp

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are the best understood adult stem cell type and serve as a paradigm for many other stem cell systems. We have recently shown that while the most potent HSCs are in a dormant phase dividing only about 5-times per lifetime, they are efficiently activated in response to injury signals. The goal of this project is to characterize these at the cellular and molecular levels. Moreover, the roles of c-Myc and N-Myc will be studied during development and maturation of HSCs while progressing from fetal liver to bone marrow niches.
