Global Health Society – Georg Forster

Global Health concerns all of us

Whether you are a student or a professor of medical or political science, form geography, ethnography, law, etc… every sector and every part of life is related to health and wellbeing in some way or another. A fact which the COVID-19 pandemic impressively underscored.

Why are we called Georg Forster?
Johann Georg Adam Forster was a German naturalist, ethnologist, travel writer, journalist and revolutionary. He has joined James Cook on his second voyage to the pacific. Although his name might not intuitively speak for global health, however, Georg Forster resembles some very important values that are reflected in this field – seeing concepts and problems not only in their local or national context but globally. He was known for striving to see cultures and people for who they are without prejudice, without western supremacy, but instead with empathy - a characteristic that research and policy making might benefit from in de-colonizing the realm of global health.

The Georg Forster Society is part of the Wahlfachtrack Global Health (more information here).
