Dr. Suboor Bakht

Dr. Bakht is a biochemist-gerontologist by training and coordinates the NCDs Implementation Working Group at Heidelberg. His interdisciplinary research focuses on NCDs Implementation Research, the concepts of generativity and aspirational dignity at workplace for the elderly and aging and mental health at workplace. With interest in applying mixed method studies in research, his group aims to address evidence and implementation gaps for NCD care and health and wellbeing among the elderly.

Projects & Grants
He has been able to maintain consistent success with respect to third party funding with various German and Indian funding bodies for Indo-German projects for Heidelberg and its cooperation partners. He successfully initiated first ever Indian Ministry for Science and Technology funded IRTG on Big Data Sciences and efficaciously initiated the first ever cooperation between United Nations Population Fund, India and the Institute for Gerontology, Heidelberg University. In the last 10 years, he is credited for setting up more than 60 Indo-German research cooperation projects, initiated one project with Nepal and two in Thailand, set up more than 80 Indo-German exchange programmes and organized high impact international events in various formats. Since 2023 he is co-leading an Indo-Japan-German research project in the field of Aging, Workplace and Mental Health. Starting year 2024, he has embarked on fostering Academia-Industry partnerships. Since January 2019, he is elected Board Member of The German Centre for Research and Innovation (DWIH), New Delhi that promotes the German research landscape and facilitates the access to the Indian research and innovation ecosystem and provides a platform for enhancing exchange cooperation and networking among Indian and German academic communities and stakeholders in research and innovation.
