Neurology and Polyclinic

The Department of Neurology treats diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system and the muscles. With over 340 employees and more than 180 nursing staff, the department provides all neurological diagnostics and therapy at Heidelberg University Hospital. Working closely together, they ensure the best possible care and a smooth, interdisciplinary treatment process for the patients in our department.

In a total of 6 mostly highly specialised wards in the Head Clinic (84 beds), two external wards – at Heppenheim District Hospital and GRN Clinic Sinsheim (20 beds) – as well as in the Head Clinic's emergency room and our 16 special outpatient clinics, we care for and treat more than 8,000 inpatients and more than 23,000 outpatients per year.  Many of our patients participate in clinical trials and thus benefit from the latest medical developments.

Our department focuses on neuro-oncology, vascular neurology, neuroimmunology, acute and intensive care neurology, neurodegenerative diseases and movement disorders, and systemic neuroscience. These areas of focus combine interdisciplinary patient care of the highest quality standards with innovative research with the aim of:

  • To be a driver of international development in neurology through innovative science
  • To be an attractive place to work and train for talented employees
  • To tackle major challenges in neuroscience with patient-oriented projects.
