The Bergstrasse District Hospital in Heppenheim (KKB) represents an important pillar of emergency care in southern Hessen. The hospital has had a specialised stroke unit for more than 10 years. In addition, a certified Chest Pain Unit, a certified shock room, a regional trauma centre and a certified Cardiac Arrest Centre are available for emergency care in the region.

The Stroke Unit at the KKB is operated in close co-operation with the Neurological Clinic of Heidelberg University Hospital. The ward currently has 8 beds. Patients with other neurological diagnoses can be treated on a normal ward. Thanks to the co-operation with the Heidelberg Neurology Department and telemedical networking with Heidelberg University Hospital, all standard stroke therapies can be offered around the clock. In addition, the treatment of patients with other neurological diseases is also guaranteed at the highest level.
