Scientific studies on key issues in acute and intensive care neurology that are currently being conducted:

MOONRISE(ModeOf Sedationduringendovasculartreatment of vertebrobasilarstroke): The randomised study on sedation management during thrombectomy is currently investigating the performance of the procedure under light sedation without intubation compared to intubation anaesthesia in patients with acute, ischaemic strokes of the posterior circulation(https://classic.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/record/NCT05525325?term=MOONRISE+stroke&draw=2&rank=1). While this issue has already been extensively investigated in patients with anterior circulation strokes (Schönenberger JAMA 2016; Schönenberger JAMA 2019; Chabanne JAMA Neurology 2023), the optimal sedation management in this case remains unclear. The results will not only provide the basis for answering this question, but also for expanding the scientific focus of the section (e.g. by initiating a multicentre study).

MENINT register (prospective register on MENingitis in intensive care units in Germany): As part of the "IGNITE!" initiative, a prospective, national registry on bacterial meningitis in intensive care units in Germany is being set up under the leadership of colleagues at the LMU Munich, Department of Neurology. A similar registry has so far only been established in the Netherlands, but the intensive care course is only recorded to a limited extent there. A key focus of the registry is the systematic recording of clinical symptoms, examination findings and laboratory and instrumental diagnostics in the initial phase of the disease. The study also aims to systematically record the incidence of relevant complications and their respective treatment approaches with their effect on the prognosis. In addition, the long-term course of the disease is to be recorded through a follow-up survey of the patients.
