Patient information
Dear patients,
Our Department of Neurology treats diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system and musculature. Our team of specialists and assistant doctors, speech therapists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, medical assistants, study assistants, documentalists, service and care assistants and administrative staff as well as more than 140 nursing staff work closely together to ensure the best possible care and a smooth and interdisciplinary treatment process for our patients.
We have extensive expertise in the clinical care of patients with brain tumours, chronic inflammatory CNS diseases (e.g. multiple sclerosis), movement disorders (e.g. Parkinson's disease), seizure disorders (e.g. epilepsy), headaches (e.g. migraines) and diseases of the peripheral nervous system (e.g. polyneuropathies). These specialisations combine interdisciplinary patient care to the highest quality standards with innovative research with the aim of translating the latest scientific findings into better treatment strategies for our patients at an early stage.
On the following pages, you will find comprehensive information about our outpatient clinics, wards, functional areas, our therapeutic services and the possibility of treatment as part of clinical studies. Our range of treatments is illustrated here. Our patient council also introduces itself and provides information on hospitalisation, bridge care and stroke care.
Together with the Department of Neuroradiology (Prof. Martin Bendszus, MD) and the Department of Neurosurgery (Prof. Sandro Krieg, MD), our department forms the Heidelberg Neurocentre. People with diseases of the brain and nervous system receive medical care here that is only available at a few centres in Europe. The neurological and neurosurgical departments offer all procedures and techniques for very precise diagnostics and the entire spectrum of modern treatment methods, such as neuronavigation or intraoperative MRI for precise control during operations on the brain. Within the Neurocentre and together with Neuropathology (Prof. Dr Felix Sahm), joint standards, studies and scientific concepts are developed for the main areas of neurology.
