TELENEUROLOGICAL STROKE NETWORK HEIDELBERG

The Heidelberg Teleneurological Stroke Network - initiated in 2008 with the help of the Baden-Württemberg State Foundation - is an association between Heidelberg University Hospital's Department of Neurology and 9 regional primary and standard care hospitals, which together provide 44 monitor-monitored beds on the local stroke wards. For these, a teleneurological shift system has been established at our clinic around the clock with university neurological expertise. Together with our partner hospitals, we make a significant contribution to ensuring high-quality stroke care throughout the region.

If no neurologist is available on site at the partner hospitals, patients are examined jointly by the internal medicine doctor on duty and our neurologists in Heidelberg via audio-video conference. State-of-the-art technology enables a detailed teleneurological examination of patients on site. Cerebral imaging procedures are transmitted in parallel to the Department of Neuroradiology and the Neurology Clinic in Heidelberg and are assessed by the neurologists and neuroradiologists, including AI-supported post-processing of perfusion data from the partner clinics. This type of collaboration ensures highly qualified, local, round-the-clock care for stroke patients by providing diagnosis and treatment in a team with the experts at the Heidelberg Neurological Clinic. In particular, the aim is to quickly identify patients who are eligible for systemic thrombolysis on site and thus save the time needed for transport to Heidelberg. Patients who are eligible for an intervention, who have a major haemorrhage or who are found to have other neurological diseases that cannot be treated locally are transferred to Heidelberg. Over 3200 teleneurological consultations are carried out in our partner clinics every year.
